2020 Colorado #500forGood Winners

Century Savings and Loan

Trinidad, Colorado
Food donations from the community have always helped feed low-income and homeless families and individuals in the Trinidad, Colorado, area. However, due to the pandemic, charities can no longer accept food donations from the community but must instead purchase and prepare the food themselves. With the #500forGood donation, Century Savings and Loan will help Zion Lutheran Church absorb the extra cost of food so the organization can continue serving those in need this winter.

Denver Community Credit Union

Denver, Colorado
All 26 Denver Public Library branches have been closed since the onset of the pandemic in mid-March. With $500, the Denver Community Credit Union staff will purchase and donate children’s books to the Denver Public Library Foundation. This project will help children in their community continue to learn and develop through reading.

Mercy Community Capital
Denver, Colorado
In Commerce City, Colorado, the graduation rate is 64.2% (well below the statewide average), and teens have difficulty bridging the gap between high school and a career. Mercy Community Capital has partnered with Mercy Housing to help break this cycle at Holly Park Apartments by providing an apprenticeship program that connects minority teens with volunteer mentors in their fields of interest. With the help of FHLBank Topeka’s #500forGood program, each mentor participant will receive a gift card when milestones are met, encouraging them to build a path toward a brighter future.
