FHLBank Topeka's board of directors was pleased to approve $12.18 million in affordable housing grants for 2022. The grants will help fund 15 projects through the competitive Affordable Housing Program (AHP) to Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma members. The successful applications will give 739 low- and moderate-income households a place to call home.

Each year, FHLBank Topeka allocates 10% of its prior year’s earnings to AHP. Nonprofit groups, for-profit developers, government agencies, and public entities apply for the grants for rental and owner-occupied housing projects through an FHLBank member like you. We appreciate the effort required from members and project sponsors to work through the application process.

Kansas/Missouri $3.45 million
for 197 housing units 

• Concordia Housing Authority will use a $992,000 AHP grant to rehabilitate 32 units in Cloud Village, a rental development.  The FHLBank member is United Bank & Trust in Marysville, Kansas.
• Lawrence Habitat for Humanity received a $500,000 AHP grant. The funds will support rehabilitation costs for 45 homeowners making less than 50% of area median income (AMI) and three homeowners earning less than 60% of AMI. Capitol Federal Savings Bank, Topeka, is the member.
• The Kansas City Rescue Mission received a $962,000 AHP grant for Crossroads on Cherry Street in Kansas City, Missouri. The project houses 94 individuals with very low incomes. CrossFirst Bank, Leawood, is the member.
• Three Dog Night Charities was awarded a $1 million Affordable Housing Program grant. The grant funds are part of the $1.8 million Eden Village KC project, which will include 23 new rental units. Capitol Federal Savings Bank, Topeka, is the member.

Nebraska
$5.02 million for 322 housing units

• Cuming County Economic Development, Inc. was awarded a $744,969 AHP grant. The grant funds will be used to rehabilitate 40 homes. F&M Bank, West Point, is the member.
• Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, Inc. received two grants – one for its down payment assistance project and one for a home repair project. The down payment assistance program received a $1 million AHP grant to help 50 homeowners purchase a home. The home repair project will assist 65 homeowners with rehabilitation costs with help from a $975,000 AHP grant. Both projects are in partnership with American National Bank of Omaha.
• Nebraska Housing Developers Association received a $702,000 AHP grant to pay for rehabilitation costs for 72 homes in Lincoln. The member on the project is First National Bank of Omaha.
• Project Houseworks was awarded a $1 million AHP grant to help repair 55 homes in Omaha. First National Bank of Omaha is the member.
• Rebuilding Together Platte Valley East will benefit from a $599,782 AHP grant. The grant supports the Safe at Home project that will rehabilitate 40 homes. The project is in partnership with First National Bank of Omaha.

Oklahoma
$3.70 million for 220 housing units

• Community Action Agency of OKC was awarded a $500,560 AHP grant to fund their owner-occupied rehab program. The grant funds will be used to rehabilitate 38 homes. MidFirst Bank, Oklahoma City, is the member.
• The Center for Community Transformation received a $1 million AHP grant to support Wewoka Housing Rehabilitation. The funds will rehabilitate 60 homes. The project is in partnership with Security State Bank of Oklahoma in Wewoka.
• Gatesway Foundation, Inc., received a $704,000 AHP grant to fund its Housing for Gatesway Friends with Intellectual Disabilities program. The newly constructed rental project will have a total project cost of $2.2 million and will provide a home for 32 individuals with intellectual disabilities. Regent Bank in Tulsa is the member.
• Tulsa Habitat for Humanity will benefit from a $1 million AHP grant. The funds will provide down payment assistance to 50 homebuyers. The member on the project is Regent Bank in Tulsa.
• Rebuilding Together OKC was awarded a $500,000 AHP grant to tackle rehabilitation projects for 40 homeowners. NBC Oklahoma in Oklahoma City is the member.

• $408,360 - Greater Morris County Development Corporation in Council Grove, Kansas for homeowner rehabilitation – Member: Farmers and Drovers Bank, Council Grove, Kansas
• $992,000 - Hickory Village, Inc., for rental unit rehabilitation in Stilwell, Oklahoma – Member: Carson Community Bank, Stilwell, Oklahoma
• $700,000 - Rebuilding Together Metro Denver for critical home repairs across Denver – Member: FirstBank, Lakewood, Colorado
